Growing up, I never went hunting. There are no great Jewish hunters. You don't see many Jewish rabbis in the National Rifle Association; hunting is not a very Jewish thing. Esau hunted; Jacob did not. Esau was a hairy guy with problems, so as a Jewish child I preferred to avoid the whole thing. But, there is a kind of hunting for all of the children of Abraham. It is very biblical. Proverbs 15:9 says, "The one who pursues righteousness, the Lord loves." In Hebrew, the word for pursue is radaf. "Radaf" doesn't just mean pursue, it means to chase, to follow, to hunt. The one who hunts righteousness, God loves. We are to be hunters of righteousness. What does that mean? It means you don't spend your life seeking money, fame and attention, all those things that we can get. But you spend your life hunting righteousness. Set your sites on righteousness; don't give up until you get it. Stop seeking the money, comfort, attention, affection and approval. Become a seeker of righteousness. Those who hunt righteousness shall obtain righteousness and the love and favor of God.
From Message #802 - The Divine Hunt
Become a hunter of righteousness. Seek after it today; pursue it, chase it, follow it, hunt it, and don't stop until you catch it.
