According to the Hebrew bible, God didn't create the world... well not exactly. In the original it reads, 'Created God the world.' This is because of the way Hebrew is set up. The emphasis is on the verb. The verb comes first, not the noun. In Hebrew 'bit the dog,' would not be about a man biting a dog, but a dog biting a man. In the same way in the Lord, it doesn't matter who you've been or what kind of life you've led. It's what you do now that counts. You don't live a good life because you happen to have a good past. You live a good life because you choose what is good and you go out and do good. You don't have to be a merciful person. Show mercy anyway and you'll become a merciful person. You don't have to be a loving person. Choose the love of God and you'll become a loving person. It's not about the circumstance and life you've been given. It's about the life you choose. Choose what is great and do what is good. And the life you live will be a good life, and a great one.
From Message #449 - The Divine Sentence
What kind of person does God want you to grow into? Take an action that would be taken by that person, live today as if you were that person - the you God calls you to be.
