Where did the holiday of Thanksgiving come from? From the Pilgrims. But where did they get it from? The Pilgrims wanted their new society in America to be modelled after Israel of the Bible. They even considered making Hebrew the national language. They saw that Israel would always celebrate the harvest with the Feast of Sukkot or Tabernacles. The Feast of Tabernacles, which always occurred in the autumn, was when Israel would give thanks to God for all its blessings. So Thanksgiving is really a Jewish holiday - the Feast of Sukkot on American soil. The point is, Thanksgiving is not only a traditional American holiday - it's Biblical. It's ordained by God for all those who are Jewish in spirit, children of Abraham, and not just as a holiday but as a way of life. The evidence of having received a gift is the giving of thanks. So if you've received salvation, your life has to be one big thanksgiving. As it is written ... in everything give thanks. Give thanks in everything and every day of your life will become a holiday. rn

Take time to count your blessings and thank God for them. At your Thanksgiving table, see if you can have everyone go around and say what they're thankful for.rn
