The Worthless One

Do you indulge in a little sin when you know you shouldn't? One of the names for the enemy is Belial. It actually appears in the Hebrew Scriptures and it means "worthless." It's telling you that the nature of the evil one is worthlessness. Therefore, it's his nature to make you worthless. Sin is not only that which causes you to do what's bad, but it actually takes away your worth. When you partake in lust, bitterness, gossip, jealousy, addiction, or any sin, it takes away your worth. It makes your walk and life less valuable and your witness less precious. But on the other hand, when you turn away from sin, when you turn down that indulgence, when you resist that temptation, and when you turn away from that habit you're adding worth to your life. Add worth to your walk, your witness, your character, and your life. Put away that sin and turn down that temptation. Have nothing to do with it. Because sin is not only not good, it's also good for nothing, that's what Belial is.
