When I've shared Messiah with orthodox Jews, sometimes they'll say, "Come back to your people and to your tradition" as if the most Jewish thing is to come back to tradition. But the Jewish people are from Abraham. Abraham came from the city of Ur, which was devoted to the worship of the moon. Back then, to follow tradition would be to worship the moon. Abraham didn't follow tradition - he broke away from tradition. He chose God over tradition. He left all the old traditions behind in Babylonia and stepped out into the unknown to follow God - to the Promised Land. The most Jewish thing in the world is to break tradition - or in other words, it's Jewish tradition to break tradition. So, as a believer, you're a child of Abraham - and thus you're called to break the tradition of sin, defeat, and fear in your life. So be like your father Abraham. Break the ancient tradition, leave the old ways behind, and set out to higher ground, to gain all that God has waiting for you in the Promised Land.
