The Broken Temple

Thursday, November 28, 2013

Chanukah is first and foremost about the Temple of God. The Temple of Jerusalem was built to be the dwelling of God's presence, a place of peace and worship. But two thousand years ago the Temple was taken over by godless foreigners who defiled and desecrated it. But by a miracle, the Temple was taken back. Its idols were destroyed with prayer and repentance, it was rededicated to the Lord with the lighting of its sacred lights. And so every year the Jewish people celebrate the restoration of the Temple by lighting the lights of Chanukah. What does Chanukah mean? It's Hebrew for DEDICATION - It's the Feast of Dedication. The Bible says you are the Temple of God, created to be a dwelling place for the living God. But too often we let idols come in, and the light goes out, and our life becomes dark and empty. But God wants to cleanse you, to give your life purpose, peace and joy. That's what Chanukah is all about - The DEDICATION of God's Temple. Open your doors to His Spirit. Open up your heart and let Him come in, and live a life of joy - Happy Chanukah.

Today's Mission

Seek God if there is any darkness or idol that you need to be cleansed of that you as His temple might be filled with His presence.
