The Scorpion And The Frog

Wednesday, November 13, 2019

Here is an old folktale: There was a scorpion that wanted to cross a river but was unable to swim. The scorpion saw a frog and said to him, "Carry me across the river." "No," said the frog, "You’re a scorpion, and you’ll sting me." "But that would be foolish," replied the scorpion, "If I were to sting you, we’d both drown. So why would I do that?" So the frog agreed and began carrying the scorpion on his back across the river. Halfway across, the scorpion stung the frog. "Why did you do that?" exclaimed the frog, "Now we’ll both drown!" "I couldn’t help it," replied the scorpion, "It’s my nature." The scorpion is a fitting symbol for sin. You can’t negotiate with sin, reason with it, or change it. Its nature is to destroy. So you can’t allow it even the smallest amount of room. So how do you deal with sin and the old nature? Only one way - You crucify it. Don’t be as foolish as the frog. For as it is written, that sin "wars against your soul." Why? That’s just its nature.

From Message #1418 - The Mystery Of The Ben Adom

Today's Mission

Today, do not attempt to negotiate with any sin or old nature. Instead just crucify it in Messiah.
