Batach Is An Active Verb

Proverbs 3:5-6 says: "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, lean not to your own understanding, acknowledge Him in all your ways, and He will direct your path." When most people talk about "trusting God" - they mean "Just trust in the Lord. Don't do anything. Stop trying, just trust." We use the word 'trust' in a negative sense... not in the sense of doing anything but rather in the sense of not doing anything. That's not really what the Bible is saying. The Hebrew word for trust is Batach. Batach means to hide in for refuge, to be confident in, to be sure, to hope in something concrete and definitive. Faith, or trust, is really a verb that requires acting and choosing to act. One of our mistakes in the Lord is we tend to think about faith primarily as a noun. We speak about "having faith" or "not having faith"... or having doubt. Doubt is a verb and so is trust. Even if you don't have faith and you are not a great faith warrior, its okay. Choose to trust and you will have faith. For faith, batach, is a verb.
