I found a parable by a rabbi concerning the season of repentance around Yom Kippur: "A man had been wandering in a forest for days, not knowing the right way out. Suddenly, he saw a man approaching and asked the man, "Can you tell me which is the right way out?" The man replied, "I don't know the right way out either. But don't take the way I've been taking because it will lead you astray. Now let's look for a new way." Then the rabbi added, "So it is with us. The way we've been following leads astray." That's true for rabbinic Judaism. For 2,000 years the Jewish people followed the ways of the rabbis thus rejecting Messiah; and now we've been lost. Therefore, if the rabbis would listen to their parable, they need to stop following the way that hasn't led to life and start seeking Messiah---so it is with us. The first step is to admit that you've been living in sin. Then follow a new path - God's way. And you will be on your way out of the woods.
