Why was Messiah crucified? Many reasons, but foremost, to save us. In that salvation is a cosmic event. In John 1, Messiah is called the Word. In Greek, the word is Logos; it means, not only the Word, but the reason and purpose. Messiah is the reason and purpose for the world, for the creation, for the universe. So it is written that, all things came into being through Him, and apart from Him, nothing came into being. But now that world, that creation is fallen and saturated with sin. So if the world came into being through Messiah, the Logos, then what happens if the Logos is killed? If the Logos for the world is killed, then the world is also killed, crucified, passed away and gone. That means your old life, your old sins, your past, your mistakes, failures, hurts, rejections, mess-ups, are all gone. Therefore be glad and live free to become a new person, because in the death of the Logos, all your sins and all your past, has truly passed away, as if it never happened in the first place.
