The word philosophy comes from two Greek words: Philo - love, and Sophia - truth. A philosopher is supposed to be a lover of truth. As philosophers go, Socrates disagreed with the Sophists. Plato, Socrates' student, developed a different philosophy than his teacher. Plato's disciple, Aristotle, eventually disagreed with him. The Neo-Platonists disagreed with Aristotle. The philosophers of the Medieval Ages disagreed with the Platonists. Then came Hegel, who disagreed with Aristotle, and Nietzsche, who disagreed with Hegel and so on. They all had different ideas they thought were the truth. After thousands of years of philosophy, man, by his own reasoning, has concluded nothing at all. Pilate asked Messiah, What is truth? Truth comes down from heaven, and you must receive it. Messiah is the truth, so don't try to figure everything out with your own reasoning. He said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. So set yourself on becoming a true philosopher, a true lover of Him who is the truth.
