St. Paul's Rubbish

Friday, August 13, 2021

In the first century, a little Jewish boy is born in the city of Tarsus, in Asia Minor. He goes to synagogue school while also learning a trade. He's brilliant and his parents therefore send him to Jerusalem to sit at the feet of the greatest rabbis in the Jewish world. Who is he? Saul of Tarsus. Undoubtedly, he would have become one of the greatest rabbis of his time and one of the sages of Israel. What promise! What potential! And yet he would later write, I count all things to be loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Messiah Yeshua, my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them but rubbish in order that I may gain Messiah. Saul gave up everything, the promise of wealth, money, career, marriage, status and prestige for the surpassing value of knowing Messiah. If Saul could offer up all of this, how much more can you offer up your sacrifice? And if Saul was totally blessed beyond his dreams, how much more will you be blessed beyond your dreams once you do what you have to do.

From Message #642 - The World Behind Me
