There's a very scary trick that magnetic storms can play with telephone lines. During a magnetic storm, it's possible for a conversation carried on a telephone line to jump to a radio line. This actually happened in New York when an intimate phone call was transferred to the radio line of a national broadcast. Without the two people's knowledge, their intimate conversation was broadcast through the airwaves all across America.
