In a traditional Hebrew marriage the bride received a special gift sent by the bridegroom called the mattan. Mattan means the gift. It was to prepare, bless and beautify the bride for the time of the wedding. In Hebrew, the word for bride is calah, which means, the perfect one. The calah, or the bride, must be perfect. The calah is the one who receives the mattan. The bride only becomes the calah, the perfect one, as she receives the gift. So Messiah is the Bridegroom and we're the bride. Messiah sends us the mattan, the gift, the Holy Spirit. Thus we become perfect, not by trying to be perfect, nor by our own strength, but by receiving and living by the gift, the Spirit. Live by the Spirit and you'll become perfected. For the Spirit's job is to lead the bride to perfection. As you follow the Spirit, you'll become more and more the calah, the perfect one. Be ye perfect, the calah, by the power of the gift of God, the Mattan. rn
