Sin and sacrifice are two concepts which most believers know well. There's a mystery in Hebrew which joins these two things more closely than you would think. Everyone deals with sin which separates us from God. Everyone needs a sacrifice to be reconciled to God. The Hebrew word khata'ah means both sin and sacrifice. The sin that separates and the sacrifice that atones for sin are the same. The sacrifice became one with the sin. When the sacrifice died, it was literally the sin dying. In 2 Corinthians 5:21, it's written, He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. Messiah is the khata'ah. He's not only the offering for sin but He actually became sin. When He was crucified and died on Calvary, it was your sin that died. When Messiah died, the bondage, darkness, emptiness of your old life was put to death. It is now finished. Messiah, who knew no sin became sin. He is the khata'ah, that we who did not know holiness, could now live as holy.rn
