Strangers On Earth

We often say to our friends and acquaintances, Don't be a stranger. And yet there is a way in which it is holy to become a stranger. The Hebrew word for stranger is gare. In the Bible, some of the best people were strangers. In Gen. 23:4, Abraham said, I am a stranger and a sojourner with you. In Exodus 2:21-22, Moses named his son Gershom, meaning, I have been a stranger in a strange land. In 1 Peter, we're called strangers in the world. Being a stranger is a holy calling. You, who are born again, are called to become a stranger in this world. When people talk of dark or impure things, let it be as if you were hearing a foreign tongue. You're to become a stranger to your old life, your old sin, your old self - a stranger to darkness and evil. When you're going through a rough time, remember that you're a stranger to your circumstance and not a part of the problem anymore. When you dwell in a strange land, like this world, there's nothing better than to do it - as a stranger. rn
