In every synagogue in the world there is not only a rabbi, but also a man called the cantor. The cantor's job is to sing the Word to the congregation. He spends years learning with precision how exactly the Scriptures are to be sung. What can we learn from this ancient practice? We learn that it's never enough just to know the Word of God, you have to sing it. Why? Because in the Book of Ephesians, you're commanded to make melody in your heart. The Word of God, like His Spirit and His love, is so great, it has to flow. Those who receive it have to flow with it. It doesn't matter how well you sing, it's not the singing of your voice; but the singing of your heart that matters. So, learn the secret that the children of Israel and cantors have known for thousands of years. Stop just knowing the Word of God, and start singing it with the melody of your heart, and the canticle of the Spirit.rn

Find a Psalm, but instead of reading it out loud, try singing it to the Lord. Or simply sing your own song of praise and thanksgiving.rn
