Every year, on Yom Kippur, the High Priest would enter the Holy of Holies. But first, he had to strip himself of his ornate priestly garments. Imagine that, on the holiest day of the year, the High Priest was underdressed. He was to wear a simple white garment and be barefoot. Only barefoot could he approach God. So you are also called to be a priest and to enter God's presence. But you must do the same as the High Priest. To enter the presence of the Lord, you must strip yourself of all busyness, all pride, all concerns, and all preoccupations. Like the High Priest's ministerial garments, strip yourself of your ministry concerns, too. It has to be just you and Him, and the blood of the sacrifice. And from that presence, that love, that joy of salvation, comes everything else. So enter the Holy of Holies today, but leave your High Priestly garments, your world of concerns, in the changing room.
