In Bible times, people didn't have last names. So, they came up with ways to tell themselves apart from each other. One way was to identify themselves by their place of origin. Such examples are Joseph of Arimathea and Simon the Cyrenian. Throughout their lives, these people were labeled by the place they came from, by their past. And Messiah, He was called, "Yeshua min N'tzeret," or "Jesus of Nazareth." His first followers were called, "Nazarenes." They were people like, "Sam the Nazarene" or "Rebekkah the Nazarene." So with us, too. In many ways, we're marked by the place we came from and our past. But in Messiah comes the power to break the past. Like those Nazarenes, we're no longer known by the old life or the past we came from but by Yeshua from whom we have become a new creature. When you live in Messiah, you're no longer marked or bound by your past. You are free in Him. So don't be bound by anything from your past. It is no longer your past. Your past belongs to Messiah. And His name belongs to you! rn
