The Greed That Destroys

Scarface Capone was the kingpin crime lord of Chicago. He was worth $100 million in 1925; that's $94 billion dollars in today's money. Rich and powerful, nobody could touch Capone. Not even the police because he used his money to bribe everyone, even the police commissioner! What finally brought Scarface Al down wasn't his killing or bootlegging but greed. That's right, Al was so greedy he refused to pay taxes. With all that money, you'd think he would just pay his taxes and avoid trouble. But greed does awful things to people. Proverbs 28:25 says that greed, "stirs up strife but those who trust in the Lord will be enriched." Greedy Al Capone earned so much strife that it landed him in prison. Greed brings the strife of sin and its punishments. The other side of that proverb tells us that trusting in God and rejecting greed, brings us God's favor and spiritual wealth which is the best wealth to have. Reject greed and trust in God. Don't make the same error Scarface Al made but trust in the Lord and He will bless your paths.
