After the days of Messiah there came to the Jewish people no less than 40 false Messiahs. The most famous of these was Shabbatai Zevi, from the 17th century. Famous and widely followed, Zevi became a problem to his followers by acting increasingly weird; he married a Torah scroll then declared the Ten Commandments illegal. Despite this, Zevi's movement continued to gain followers. Later, Zevi went to conquer Turkey, was arrested, and to save his life, converted to Islam. I imagine he divorced the Torah and married the Koran. Still people followed him even into modern times. What does this tell us? It tells us when people turn from the Lord, they'll follow anything - no matter how crazy! But the same is true of us. Every day, we have a choice to follow the Lord or something else. If you don't follow Messiah, you're going to follow a false Messiah. Follow greed, lust, money, pride, comfort, whatever, it is a false Messiah, leading to destruction. So, the next time you feel tempted to follow something else, just remember Shabbatai Zevi and get back to following Jesus. rn

Ask yourself today, "What am I following?" Is it truly God? If not, turn away from those other things and follow after Messiah's leading. rn
