Messiah's Invisible Appearance

Tuesday, December 7, 2021

When you read a biography, there's usually a description of the person's physical appearance or being. We have no photographs of people before the 19th century, but people in ancient times created statues, mosaics, portraits, and descriptions to give us an idea. From this, we know that Julius Caesar was tall and thin and Alexander the Great was clean shaven. Look at the Gospels; there's so much about Messiah but there's no real description of Him. We know He looked Jewish because He was Jewish, He had a beard and fringes on His garments according to the law, but no actual description. Why not? The Messianic prophecy of Isaiah 53 says, "He has no form that we should look upon Him or appearance that we should desire Him." What Isaiah means is the way Messiah appeared is not important. It's what He was that mattered. If you follow Messiah, you're following someone unseen. That requires faith. So we are to live, not by sight or appearance, but by faith, by the unseen. For Messiah can only truly be seen with the eyes of the heart.

From Message #510 - You Don't See Him

Today's Mission

Build up your faith today in Messiah by exercising the eyes of your heart, gazing into His heart, His face, His beauty, His goodness, and His glory.
