In the English language, all our verbs have tenses: past, present, and future. He will drink. He drinks. He drank. He's drunk. In Hebrew however, the language is never bound by time. There are only two real tenses: perfect and imperfect. The perfect is that which is finished. The imperfect is that which is unfinished. When you speak about doing something in the present, you use the imperfect, because what you are doing is not finished. In other words, in Hebrew, whatever you do in the present is in the imperfect tense. Your loving is imperfect loving, your ministering is imperfect ministering, and your good works are imperfect good works. How do you become perfect? The secret is, whatever you do on earth, you do from the finished work of God on the cross. You work not from your labor, but from the finished work of God. You love, not from your love, but from the finished love of God, and you live, not from your life, but from the finished and perfect life of God. For it all begins with, "It is finished." rn
