In the Book of Ruth, tragedy strikes and Naomi's husband and two sons die. Bitter, Naomi told everyone, "Do not call me Naomi, call me Marah" which means "bitter". Naomi means "pleasant" but her circumstances had changed and now she was bitter. But God didn't recognize Naomi's new name, Marah, not even once. Why? Because God saw her differently than she saw herself. He saw her as he made her, not bitter but pleasant. God sees how she will be at the end of the story - blessed and pleasant. So, you may see yourself as bitter, depressed, a failure but by grace, you aren't any of these; If you're born again, you're holy, royal, victorious, beloved, and more than a conqueror. Why? Because God made you to be pleasant in His grace, not sinful and bitter. He sees you as you ought to be, not what you were without Him. So, stop seeing yourself just as you appear and start seeing yourself as God sees you and as you will become. You may call yourself Marah, but God calls you Naomi.rn

Live in the new self and in the identity God has given you and it will be so. Leave the bitterness of Marah behind and plunge into the pleasantness of God. rn
