The Deadly Angel

Jerusalem was surrounded by the Assyrian army and threatened with annihilation. King Hezekiah was inside Jerusalem. He lifted up the crisis to God. The Assyrian account of King Sennacherib records the same siege except that it claims that Hezekiah was so afraid that he gave Sennacherib tribute. Then the Assyrians left the city alone. This is actually a confirmation of the biblical account. For the Assyrians never received tribute from any city in rebellion. Instead, they would destroy it. So why did they leave Jerusalem alone? The Bible gives the answer: "An angel of the Lord struck down the Assyrian Army, 185,000 of them, in one night." The historical truth is that the Assyrian Army never took Jerusalem, and instead, was vanquished by the Lord, totally annihilated. The same God who protected Jerusalem will protect you, His child. So be at peace no matter what you're going through. Just put everything into His hands as Hezekiah did and enjoy His perfect safety.
