In the Hebrew language, Ben or Bar means, son of and it was often attached to a person's name to indicate their identity or relationship to their father. There was, Simon bar Jonah, the son of Jonah, Yeshua bar Joseph, the son of Joseph, and others. Ben or Bar was also used to link a person and their name to a characteristic like Joseph Barnabas, meaning, son of encouragement. The point is that you are the child of your characteristics. Ephesians says we were once the children of wrath. So, it's not just that we try to do good, but we become new people. You used to be John Bar Anger but now you are John Bar Compassion or John Bar Love. You used to be Mary Bar Failure, now you are Mary Bar Victory. Put your own name in there, add the Bar, then fill in the characteristics that is now to define you in God. For you alone can chose what you are now a child of God - It's a privilege belonging to those who have been born again. rn
