Have you ever put the bell of a stethoscope to a rock? Probably not! But if you did, you would discover that a rock has no heartbeat. Now, put the stethoscope to your chest, and you'll find that you have a heartbeat - because you're not a rock. Your heartbeat tells you that your existence is never to be taken for granted. Your life is a gift. There was a first heartbeat, and there will be a last. And if you put that stethoscope to your loved ones, parents, children, co-workers, and co-ministers, you'll find that they too have heartbeats. That means, unlike a rock, they won't always be here. Therefore, their existence cannot be taken for granted. Your life and your new life in salvation is God's gift to you. What you do with your life is your gift to God. Treasure those around you while you have them. Love them, forgive them, and bless them. We are not rocks, and our greatest treasures in this world, the people we love, all have heartbeats.
