The True Mark of Character

The English word character comes from a similar Greek word, kharacter which means an engraved mark. As believers, we are to be people of character. What does character have to do with engraving? Your character is what marks you. Your character is what identifies your life. It's not money, fame, or your success that identifies you. It's your character, whether you were a good person in this life or not. In eternity it will matter if you were a loving parent, a faithful spouse, or a godly man or woman. You'll make your mark in this cosmos or kingdom, not so much by your outward acts, but ultimately by your inner nature, your integrity, purity of heart, and your righteousness or lack thereof. How do you become a person of true character? By walking in the Lord and by choosing His way over and over again. When you do that, you start making engravings that will become the mark of your character and your legacy. Don't focus on the outside and start working on the inside. With the help of the Holy Spirit, make your mark and engrave your character.
