There is such a thing as a good hate. For instance, it says in the Psalms, "I hate the work of those who turn aside," and "I hate every false way." Proverbs also speaks about hate, "The fear of the Lord is to hate evil, pride and arrogance." We have to love people, but we must hate sin and evil. Hate sin in your own life so much that you will also set no evil thing in front of your eyes. Hate that sin of adultery, gossip, self-pride and selfishness so much that you fight it with all your strength. There is a holy hatred, not against flesh and blood, but against evil. It's a good thing to have a beautiful hate for sin. Holy hatred is part of the Psalms and the Psalms are beautiful. Start not just disliking but hating the sin in your own life. When you sing Psalms of praise, it's as worship to God as when you set your heart to become a much more loving person by hating your own sin.

Love the sinner but hate the sin - and apply this to yourself. Hate that sin so much, you'll stop doing it.
