Joseph Richardson, a New York millionaire, lived and died in a house only five feet in width. Mr. Richardson had owned a narrow lot of land and wanted to sell it to his neighbors but they weren't willing to pay him what he was asking. So spitefully, he put up a house five feet wide on the property which disfigured the block. And then he condemned himself to living in it, all for spite. Soon the five-foot wide house acquired a name. It was called "the Spite House." This reveals something. When you hold in your heart bitterness, unforgiveness, a grudge, the life you always end up hurting the most is your own. Bitterness and spite will take what was meant to be a blessed life and make it petty, limited, narrow its vision, and hem it in. Hold onto unforgiveness, and your life will become a shadow of what it was meant to be. Renounce unforgiveness, get out of that dump, and have that shack condemned and demolished. For a child of the King has no place living in a House of Spite.
