Living As His Temple

When the Gospel was spreading among pagans of the Roman Empire, believers were ridiculed for not having temples. Most religions had temples with statues, shrines, and idols in them but the Gospel had no temples. Origen explained: "The humanity of the Lord is the highest temple; the most beautiful image of God. True Christians are living statues of the Holy Spirit, with which no Jupiter or Phidias can compare." The Bible says, "Don't you know that you are the Temple of the living God?" New Testament faith never focuses on temples, church buildings, or cathedrals because of this radical fact. In the New Covenant, we are the Temple of the living God in whom the living God actually dwells and through whom the living God is glorified. Treat your body, your entire being, and your life in a way that is worthy of what it truly is... holy and sacred, the dwelling place of the Most-High. Live holy, live pure, live true, live beautifully, live righteously. For you are in reality, in fact and actuality, the very Temple of the living God!
