William Beebe and Theodore Roosevelt would often go outdoors to locate the galaxy of Andromeda. Then one would say, "This is the spiral galaxy of Andromeda. It's as large as our Milky Way and one of a hundred million galaxies. It's 750,000 light years away and consists of one hundred billion suns, each one larger than our sun." After that, Roosevelt would smile and say, "Now I think we are small enough." Seeing the vastness of the universe revealed to them how small they really were. God's people are called to be humble. Not that you should dwell on how rotten, insignificant or unholy you are. Do it the same way Roosevelt and his friend did. Don't dwell on yourself, dwell on what is bigger than you - God. True humility comes by forgetting about yourself as you behold the awesomeness of God. It's not so much about your smallness but His bigness. So it is written, "When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers... What is man that You are mindful of him..." Get lost in the bigness of God and being humble will be child's play.

Take time today to go outside and consider the heavens, the stars, the universe and God. Let the greatness of God shrink and overwhelm everything else in comparison.
