The English word character comes from a similar Greek word kharakter. The Greek word means an engraved mark. As believers we are to be people of character. What does character have to do with engraving? Your character is that which will leave the mark that identifies your life - as an engraving. It's not going to be your money, fame, image or success that will make your mark - it's your character. What will matter is if you were a good person, a godly man or woman. You'll make your mark not so much by your outward acts, but by your inner nature, your integrity, your purity of heart and your righteousness. So how do you become a person of true character? By walking in the Lord and by choosing His way over and over again. When you do that you start making an engraving that becomes the mark of your character and your legacy. Stop focusing on the outside and start working on the inside. Get out your engraving tools by the spirit, make your mark and engrave your character.
