Shevat and Messiah's Ceasing

In one of the most profound mysteries, the Scripture says, "God rested on the seventh day." The word rested is the Hebrew word shavat. From this word, we get the word Shabbat. So the root word of Sabbath, or Shabbat, means to cease. God ceased from His work. Every Sabbath or Shabbat, the Jewish people cease from their work. But the ultimate Sabbath comes in Messiah. It's no accident that Messiah died at the coming of the Sabbath. The ultimate shabbat or ceasing is the ceasing of Messiah. It's through His ceasing on the cross that He entered the Sabbath. So the secret of the Sabbath in Messiah is to cease from the old life, from the old you, the old works, the old sins. Messiah ceased from His works and entered the Sabbath. How do you enter the Sabbath of Messiah? Through the doorway of the shavat - the holy ceasing. Cease from your worries, burdens, and sin. Be still, let go and you'll enter the Sabbath, and, as did the thief that same day, you'll enter with Him in Paradise.
