Snakes often hang out under rocks or piles of sticks. Ecclesiastes 10:8 says, "He who breaks a hedge, a serpent shall bite him." In the natural, it means that if you break down a wall or a pile of branches or stones, you might get bitten by a snake. But this also has a profound application in the spiritual realm. This verse can be applied this way, "He who breaks a spiritual hedge will be spiritually bitten by a spiritual serpent." The enemy is called the serpent. Thus, if you break a hedge, he will bite you. Hedges are the protections you build around your life. They protect your marriage, your prayer life, your relationship with God, your time in the Word, your walk, and your witness. You have to build hedges and you have to keep them up. A hedge that is broken isn't a hedge. Establish Godly hedges for your own protection. Keep them, honor them, maintain them and keep them strong. And don't break them, for he who breaks a hedge will be bitten by a serpent.
