Gideon of the Book of Judges lived in fear. He was afraid to stand up to those who were oppressing his people. Yet God called him to victory. He had to be valiant and courageous. He had to break down an altar and fight. His was given the name Jerubbaal which means let Baal contend. The name was saying, "Let this false god, Baal, try to fight me." Gideon was a coward in many ways but his name spoke of somebody who was courageous. God's people are to live unafraid to stand up to evil. We are to stand against the gods of this age - immorality, addiction, selfishness and fear. We have to fight. You might think, "I'm not a fighter." That's okay, you're in good company - neither was Gideon. But he forced himself to overcome his fears. You have to do the same. Live courageously and put on a fighting attitude - against evil and principalities. You were called to be strong and victorious that you too might be called "Let Baal Contend."
