The Do-It-Yourself Commandment

As a child, I was given toys or kits that required me to put something together - a paint-by-number kit, a model airplane kit, a construction kit, etc. When you put something together yourself, you feel good about it. Did you know that God has given you a Do-It-Yourself Commandment Kit? You come up with the commandment - with His help of course. In the Sermon on the Mount, Messiah says, "Do to others what you would have them do to you." This is called the "Golden Law," or the "Greatest Commandment." And yet, it doesn't give you any details as to what exactly you are to do. He's giving you a kit. The Lord doesn't tell you what to do. Rather, He gives you the principle. You have to put it together to come up with the specific commandment. You have to ask yourself, "What would I like others to do for me?" And then you have your commandment. Go do that very thing for others. Do-it-yourself kits are fun and rewarding. And God has given you a most holy one. So go for it. You have the honor of putting together your very own divine commandment. rn
