While Abraham Lincoln was president, a delegation came to him with a written protest against his old and beloved friend, Senator Baker. Their objections were filled with personal attacks on Baker's character. Lincoln held the paper in his hand and asked calmly, "This is my paper which you have given me? To do with as I please?" "Certainly, Mr. President," the spokesman answered. Lincoln laid the paper on the hot coals in the fireplace and the paper and its accusations were burned up. He then turned to the group and said, "Good day, gentlemen." Lincoln didn't have time to listen to gossip. He knew how destructive it was, so he destroyed it. As a child of God, you need to do likewise. You need a spiritual fireplace - a place where you burn up all the gossip, unclean words, and thoughts that come your way. Before it ever gets settled in your heart, burn it up. Abraham Lincoln was a great man, and part of that greatness was due to his fireplace. Do likewise.
