Luke's Gospel closes with the Lord ascending to heaven. As amazing as it was, don't you think that the disciples would have rather kept Messiah's comforting presence for the rest of their lives? But, that's why the ascension is so important. It reveals to us that just as important as knowing the Lord's presence is to know the Lord's unpresence. He had to leave so that the disciples could learn to walk by faith, grow deeper in knowing Him and that the Spirit could then come. Sometimes, in order to know the Lord, He has to take away those things that you were relying on that you might truly know Him. When you feel that He's far away from you, it doesn't mean that He's not there. It's just His unpresence. It means He wants you to grow up, to grow stronger in faith and to grow deeper in love. So be encouraged. It means that the Lord has great things for you and that He's always there with you - in His unpresence.

Every time you feel distant from the Lord, read a promise from His Word and be encouraged by it. Rejoice in His presence even when you don't feel it.
