The Revolutionary Act

Some people take the scripture in Matthew 5:39 about turning the other cheek to mean that the Lord is telling us to be passive, to overlook what happens, and not to act. In the Sermon on the Mount, Messiah said, "If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also." That's part of it, but Messiah meant much more than that. Turning the other cheek means actively offering your other cheek to be hit as well. It means you are called to take revolutionary actions - actions so unexpected, and so revolutionary that they confound everybody. Do you want to overcome evil? Then, stop dwelling on and reacting to it. Instead, take the most unexpected, most unwarranted action of surprising love and righteousness, because that's exactly what Messiah did for us. If there's someone who has hurt you or sinned against you, then you have the unique opportunity to perform a wonderful act of unexpected, revolutionary love. It says so in the Bible, so take a revolutionary action - it's as simple as turning the other cheek.
