The "I Love Lucy" Apocalypse

In the 1950s, American prime time television was filled with family programs, I Love Lucy, Father Knows Best, and Ozzie and Harriet. Each featured a father, a mother and children. The father was respected, the mother loving, and the children respectful. Imagine these programs in today's culture: Lucy and Desi sleeping together but not married, or Lucy sleeping with Fred and Ethel with Desi, or one of the daughters on Father Knows Best getting pregnant and having an abortion. If anybody in the 1950s turned on the TV and saw what we're seeing today, they'd be horrified and think that it was Sodom and Gomorrah. Today's world is less loving, more self-centered, more harsh, and brutal. Thus we have to rise up all the more, reject the twisted standards, and become people of integrity, untouched, and untouchable. We must become more radical in prayer, in the Word, and in righteousness. In the 1950s, these traits would have blended in, but now they blaze as candles in the night. They'll count for more. Therefore shine as a candle in the night and light up the world.
