Growing up, I never thought Palm Sunday was Jewish. What could be Jewish about a man named Jesus Christ riding a donkey over palms put on the road by people in robes? And yet, what is the central place on earth for the Jewish people? Jerusalem - it's the place of places and the city of cities. What does Jesus Christ mean? The word Christ is the Greek translation of the Hebrew word Mashiach - or Messiah - and there's no more Jewish a word than Messiah. So here you have the two most Jewish of things: the City of Jerusalem - the city of the Jewish people, and Messiah - the hope of the Jewish people. So, what could be more Jewish than the two coming together? The Hebrew prophet in Zechariah foretold this very thing that Messiah would come to the city and come exactly as He did, humble, riding on a donkey. The prophet Zechariah said, "If Messiah has come, rejoice greatly and be exceedingly glad." Rejoice - be exceedingly glad for Messiah your King has come to you.rn
