Genesis 49:10 says, "The scepter shall not depart from Judah until Shiloh comes." Shiloh means the Messiah and the scepter is the power over life and death, particularly of capital punishment. In the Babylonian Talmud it says, "The Sanhedrin found themselves deprived of the right of life and death and they covered their heads with ashes and said, 'Woe to us for the scepter has departed from Judah and the Messiah has not come.' In other words, the Sanhedrin lost the power of life and death, which they considered the scepter of Judah. And so, by their own reckoning, the Messiah had to have come. So when did that happen? The rabbis record that it happened 40 years before the destruction of the Temple. The Temple was destroyed in 70 A.D. Subtract 40 years and that's 30 A.D. So according to the Talmud, the scepter departed in the year 30 A.D. That means Messiah had to have come by the year 30 A.D. What happened in approximately the year 30 A.D? Messiah died and rose - He took the scepter of Judah. Even the Talmud bears witness of Him!rn
