The Saint in the Car

There are some people who keep little statues of saints in their car. But there's another kind of car saint. Imagine you're in your car, you're late for work and the car ahead of you is going 20 miles per hour. You can't pass, you're anxious and upset and you start developing intense hatred for the person in front of you. You have no peace, no love, and no joy. Nothing good is coming out of your mouth. What's the problem? The problem is that your goal is to get to work. You forget the real and central goal. The central goal is 'Love God with all your heart and love your neighbor as yourself.' If you put that first, then that slow car never could have hindered your goal. Stay at peace. If you love the person ahead of you and rejoice in God, you've grown and have taken a step for sainthood. Seek not to get ahead, but seek to be a saint. You do need a saint in your car, but it has to be you. rn
