The Blockage In The Mirror

Dr. J. Sidlow Baxter related an incident involving his little daughter. There was a picture of Jesus on a wall of his home directly in line with a mirror. One day his daughter was standing in front of the mirror directly in line with the picture of Jesus, and when she moved away, the picture reemerged. Excited, she said, "Daddy, I can't see Jesus when I'm looking at myself." She had more wisdom than most believers. One of the biggest obstacles to seeing God is ourselves. What are you dwelling on most of the time? Is it Him or you? It doesn't matter whether you're dwelling on yourself because of pride or in self-contempt. In the end, it's the same thing; you're dwelling on yourself. And when you're dwelling on yourself, you can't see the Lord. So Paul wrote, "It's no longer I who live but Messiah who lives in me." The purpose of your worship is not to focus on your worship; it's about Him. Get your eyes on Him and forget about yourself because, as the little girl discovered, when you're dwelling on yourself, you can't see Jesus.rn
