In a particular "Peanuts" comic strip, Charlie Brown was asked if he'd like to have been Abraham Lincoln. Well now Charlie Brown answered, "I'm having a hard enough time being just plain old Charlie Brown..." One believer made a similar observation and put it this way: "When I die, I will not be asked, why were you not St. Paul, or that great leader in the church" I will be asked, "why were you not yourself?" And so it is written, "I can do all things through Messiah who strengthens me... Notice it says "I" - not someone else. Only I can do all things that God has called me to do. No one else can fulfill my calling, nor can I fulfill the calling of anyone else. You see, God made you precious and unique. Each person in God's image is precious and unique. So when you try to be someone else, you become a second-rate imitation; you actually sin against God because He didn't make you to be someone else. So forget about what everyone is doing and you focus on being faithful to God for your calling. Be yourself in His grace.
From Message #1559 - The Fearful Wonder
Live for no one else's approval but the Lord's. Be yourself in the presence of the Lord.
