The Pentecostal On Mt. Sinai

Friday, May 21, 2021

Moses was a Pentecostal. In fact, Orthodox Jews are Pentecostal. Pentecost is a Jewish Holy Day given to Moses in the wilderness. God told the Israelites to count seven weeks after Passover and then celebrate a special holy day called Shavuot, which means the Feast of Weeks. It was Israel’s summer festival of harvest. When the Greek speaking Jews had to come up with the Greek name for the feast of harvest, they called it the Feast of Fifty Days. In Greek, fifty is ‘Penta’ and days is ‘costes.’ Put it together and you get Pentecost. So when you celebrate Pentecost, you’re celebrating the ancient harvest of Israel. What does this reveal? First: Pentecost came every year, so you need to be filled with the Spirit not just once, but every day of your life. Second: the Spirit coming is linked to a harvest celebration. So if you’re filled with the Spirit, you’re going to go out into the harvest field and spread the Gospel. Third: it’s linked to Israel. So love Israel and pray for her redemption. Lastly, it’s Jewish to believe in Jesus and Moses was Pentecostal!
