There is a sword hanging over us - a sword being prepared against religious freedom, against believers, against the Gospel, the likes of which believers in America have never known. And most believers are unaware of it.
It wasn't long after the Democratic party took over the lower house of Congress that it passed what is called The Equality Act. The proposed law has been called the most dangerous law to religious freedom ever proposed on American soil.
It legally eradicates the distinction of gender as thus male and female. It codifies homosexuality, pansexuality, and virtually every other sexuality as a federally protected state - against any who might oppose such things or not go along with them.
The law would rule that any "public accommodation" must in effect, give way to this war on gender. This would not only mean that men could use women's bathrooms and vice versa, but, for example, the law would force a "Christian" hospital to perform operations to change a man to a "woman" and a woman to a "man."
The act also manages to slip in the issue of abortion, making the procedure an enshrined right that can be forced upon those who don't believe in the killing of the unborn (as in Christian medical facilities and medical workers).
Beyond that, if churches are ruled to be public accommodations, it could force Christian houses of worship to host events celebrating what the Bible calls sin. It would thus mean the total apostasy or destruction of churches and Christian houses of worship across America.
It could also end up forcing parachurch ministries to hire those who clearly and overtly live lives against the Word of God - another means to destroy the witness and ministry of God.
As far as all those cases of Christian bakers and wedding vendors, etc. seeking only not to do what clearly goes against their faith - The Equality Act will come down on all of them - believers will then ultimately be forced to go against their faith and convictions or be driven out of business and prosecuted.
But the Act goes farther. In 1993, Congress passed the Religious Freedom Restoration Act to protect the exercise of religious freedom. But the Equality Act specifically mentions the Religious Freedom Restoration Act - in order to nullify it. It declares that where the Equality Act comes into conflict with the Religious Freedom Restoration Act - the Religious Freedom Act is, in effect, struck down, null and void, and cannot be appealed to by any believer.
In order to become law, it needs to be passed by the Senate and not vetoed by the President. As long as the Senate is controlled by the present Republican lawmakers, the Act cannot pass. And as long as the Republicans hold the White House, the Act, if passed, will be vetoed.
But it only takes one election to change all that - and the Act will pass. And if the Act passes, it's a whole new ballgame. We will be entering the territory of persecution. It is the ultimate end of what the principle given in the Bible that those who call evil good will also call good evil.
I feel an urgency as never before - that we need to be more diligent than ever before praying for revival, this year. I ask you to join me in that mission, starting this month. And may God greatly bless you as you do!
Your brother and co-laborer
in His love and service,
Jonathan
