THE YEAR THAT WAS AND IS TO COME

2019 was a dramatic year. At its start, the state of New York passed a law that would, in effect, allow mothers to kill their unborn children up to the time of birth. The bill was passed with great celebration among some Americans and great horror among others. The decision inspired other states, mainly in the northeast, to seek to do likewise - to expand the practice of abortion and to allow the killing of unborn children up to the time of their birth.
2019 saw the American mainstream join in the celebration of homosexuality as never before. Pride Month changed from a radical celebration on the fringe American society to a celebration championed and sponsored by corporate America - more and more brazenly. As noted last month, homosexuality was increasingly celebrated in the public school system and in government buildings and agencies.
2019 also witnessed the mainstream culture's increasing attempt at silencing, suppressing, vilifying, and punishing believers and free speech. It was the year that singer Taylor Swift released a video depicting conservatives, Christians, and those who viewed homosexuality as a sin - as ignorant, hateful, backwards, hillbillies.
The year saw more examples of apostasy not only in the secular culture, but in the church, with pastors, churches, and denominations increasingly condoning what the Bible calls sin and a number of Christian leaders publicly renouncing their faith.
In these and many other ways and realms 2019 was a year that witnessed an acceleration in America's departure from God and the war against biblical faith and morality. So what will 2020 bring?
In 2020 there will be a presidential election. As President Trump has allied himself with evangelical Christians, the Democratic party has increasingly allied itself with those who oppose biblical faith. And it has become increasingly radicalized and extreme in that direction - on the issue of life, gender, religious freedom, and Israel. Take note: If all the radical developments of 2019 took place under the administration of a conservative president, what will happen if that administration is removed. It will mean the opening up of the flood gates.
In the Bible the period of 400 years is very significant. 2020 will mark 400 years from the sailing of the Mayflower, the landing at Plymouth Rock, and, in many ways, the founding of a Christian America. Will it also mark the end of what was established in that year?
This is a truly critical moment. We must stand as strong witnesses, bright lights in the darkness and we set forth this year in prayer, as never before, for revival. The future will depend on it. And may God greatly bless you this month as you do.
