Branding Your Cigarettes

In an effort to create a stronger deterrent to smoking, a new strategy was tried - namely, putting images on cigarette packs - images of what happens when you smoke - images of diseased lungs, sickened bodies, cancer, and corpses. So when someone reaches to smoke a cigarette, they will see what cigarette smoking will ultimately bring about. So that smokers will begin to associate cigarettes not with pleasure but with pain and death. The strategy has proved effective. The strategy actually comes from the Bible. The Book of Proverbs tells us that behind the temptation of an adulteress is a highway to hell and destruction. Apply it to whatever temptation you're dealing with. Take that temptation, and brand it, connect it, label it, cover it, with the images of what that sin will ultimately bring into and take out of your life - the pain, the harm, the guilt, the regret, the destruction, the wasted years, a walk of defeat - even the fires of hell. Every time it rears its head, see those images, and you'll run from it - just as you would from a cigarette pack covered with pictures of death.
